Still some things I would like to change in the ubuntu 8.10 installed on my laptop

Here are some things I would like to solve. Posted here in order to remember. And with hope that maybe someone smart could leave comments.
1. Firefox is lagging sometimes. For example its bookmarks menu is not rendered until mouse pointer moves over it.
2. This is also connected with firefox, but I suppose it is some bug in flash. The thing is that sometimes on youtube I cannot get the video displayed while audio is playing. Cannot understand why. But after update of a page the video is showed. But for the most times it works fine.
3. Tray icons are not updated properly.
4. Sometimes sound disappears (video plays but without audio), cannot play any .mp3 file.
5.Sometimes sound disappears from firefox, but it is ok in opera.

I found a temporary solution for the 4 issue:
Go to System->Administration->System monitor -> kill a process which contains in its name "alsa". And the sound will reappear.
